What do the different property types mean?

For the purposes of classification on this web site we use the following property-type labels and definitions.


A building is a structure with four walls, typically used for commercial purposes.


A condominium is a residential unit within a building owned individually that shares ownership of the grounds and structure with others jointly.


A cottage is a dwelling located in a rural, or semi-rural, area typically used only seasonally.

Detached House

A detached house is a single-family dwelling which is free-standing, typically with a yard.


A farm is an area of land, including various structures like a farm house or barn, devoted primarily to agricultural use.


Land is a piece of property without any significant structure on it.

Semi-Detached House

A dwelling which is part of a pair of houses built side by side and sharing a wall.


A townhouse is a dwelling which is part of a row of identical or mirror-image houses which share side walls.
